Free Summer Movie Night for Families to Be Held at Candlewood Lake Town Park on September 4
Last Summer Movie Night of the Season Is a Great Opportunity for Families to Spend Time Together, Enjoying a Movie Under the Stars

DANBURY, CT-A successful first season of Summer Movie Nights will conclude on Saturday, September 4, 2010, with the showing of the hit family film, Madagascar. The film will be shown "under the stars" at Danbury's Candlewood Lake Town Park, beginning at dusk (about 7:45 pm). The movie is free and open to the public. The rain date is September 5.

Families are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy the show together, lakeside. The Town Park Concession Stand is open during the movie showing.

Summer Movie Nights at the lake were the result of a Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) community project initiated by Mike Cormier, a 2009 PLTI graduate. Each PLTI graduate completes a community project, designed to benefit children and families in the Greater Danbury Community.

"I saw this as a way to bring families together to watch a fun family film and enjoy the beauty of Danbury's Town Park," Mike said. "It's free, so families didn't have to spend money to enjoy each other's company. That's important in this economy."

Mike collaborated with Nick Kaplanis, Danbury's Director of Parks and Recreation, to bring his project to life. With the sponsorship of a number of community businesses and organizations, they were able to present four movies this season, The Iron Giant, Free Willy, The Blind Side, and Madagascar.

The community sponsors of Summer Movie Nights are Union Savings Bank, Kiwanis Club of Danbury, Fairfield County Bank, Irving Levine Automotive, Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, Inc., Women's Club of Danbury/New Fairfield, Dawn's Pizzazz, and Sydney A. Rapp.
